The Smoke and Mirrors of the Electric Car

I can't stand anymore the crummy Yippie ecologists who can't think by themselves, and claim loud and strong how we should all run around in electric cars, and that if you don't, shame on you, because you are destroying the planet, all this because they believe this is smart and sounds good.

Yes, these cars are operating at nearly zero pollution, and that's great, but what about their construction and recycling? Eh? Do you know they are stuffed with electronic components, made of all kind of chemicals and heavy metals, and coming from all four corners of the Earth? What about the pollution generated by the production of these components and their transportation to the manufacture? Do you think of that? What do you do with all of the acids and other chemicals contained in the batteries? Are they ecological-proof? In addition, where is this electricity coming from? From the sun, or the radiance of your Karma? They come from nuclear plants, coal plants, petrol, etc.

And how do you recycle all of this, at the end of the life of the car? What are you doing with all of the electronics? You bury them in the ground, or send them to poor countries in Asia so they strip them apart and be poisoned with our junk?

So ecological electric cars, only have ecological their name, and the argument of ecologists are worth two cents and they believe this gives them a good conscience to ride this kind of car.

Yes, an electric car is not generating pollution when you use it, but everything around it is energy-hungry and polluting!

So please, start thinking by yourself, and stop listening to industrial speeches and waving banners for the cameras. If you want to be an eco-citizen:

- walk
- use bikes,
- prefer public transportation, to cars,
- practice car-pooling, share your rides with others,
- DO NOT buy huge cars, if you are living a city! How often do I see SUV in the streets, that is so ridiculous!

If you do these simple things, you'll already greatly lower your ecological footprint, more than if you buy an electric car!

Think by yourself,

Steven C.

It might be off-topic, but, from what I understood, batteries of electric cars are not lasting long. Their autonomy is progressively decreasing, and after some years, they are no longer handling the load, and need to be replaced. Is that true? While searching on this subject, it looks like this kind of batteries are $10.000 ?! So the argument that, electric cars are more expensive to buy but that this is compensated by the saving on gas, is void.

Indeed. And with all the electronic onboard, what about failures and reparations ?

I do not think that ecology is the only reason of being of electric cars. To me, they first represent a response to the phasing out of fossil fuels (petrol). -AJ

Indeed, but from where will we get the electricity needed to power all these vehicles? Coal power plants? Nuclear power plants? There is no clean energy, each are worse than the others. Wind turbines or solar panels will never be able to produce enough electricity to power cars in mass...

I am agree with Steven C. But Americans love too much their big cars, we'll continue to over consume petrol until the last drop without minding of the future.

I would like to add that, aside from electricity, these cars are also ultra connected, which means, they can be hacked, the same way a computer, or a smartphone can be compromised and controlled by hackers... see?

Yes, an electric car will generate less pollution during its life BUT, the making of such car produces a lot than a conventional car AND, what about the after life of electric cars? What do you of all the electronic? of the batteries?

Electric cars involve the use of pieces which are manufactured all around the world, so what do you do you do of the transportation of these pieces? What about all the energy, including water used to create such car?

So to me, electric car is solving nothing, from an ecological point of view. It's pushed just because it sounds good, and it prepares the after petrol era.

Hi!

I don't know how this is in the US, but in Europe, we measure the level of pollution of a car, to the amount of CO2 it produces. That being said, I think it would be interesting to know how much CO2 was released in the atmosphere, during the manufacturing of the car (including the manufacturing of each components, the transportation, and so on...). I believe that the advantage of electric cars, from a pollution point of view is totally voided by the manufacturing process. And like it was said, what about the after life of these electric cars?
