Hollywood should stop adapting video games into movies!

I don't understand why Hollywood keeps insisting on buying the rights of popular video games; I simply don't get it! EACH single time, it has ended in a failure. Give me an example of a successful film adaptation of a video game?

But to me, there is nothing surprising! Even if video games nowadays are more and more like films in their story telling and direction, the point is, a video game is INTERACTIVE. This is what makes the success of such or such game. YOU are really taken part to the story, and living it from the inside. THAT is what makes the success of videos. And this is something that the movie industry, with all their millions and special effects will never be able to do.

Also, if you look closely, stories in video games are not really interesting, they often very basic, stereotyped, incoherent and recycled. Okay, once in a while, there are games with great stories, but most of the time this is not the case, and no one minds! What matters is the immersion, the feeling of really being the hero and that your actions have an impact on the story. So if you remove this aspect and just keep the lambda story, then OF COURSE you'll end with a film of no interest!

So please stop the massacre! Instead of wasting millions to buy rights from video games, just use this money to pay talented story and script writers, and you'll see a high return on investment.

I am with you "A". But Hollywood is so stubborn! "Hitman", "Assassin's Creed", "Halo", "Tomb Raider", "The Last of Us", "Uncharted", etc... all epic fails approaching! And guess what? I read that they are also planning on making films from "Minecraft" or even "Tetris"??? WTF!

Yes, I agree. Video games are rarely suitable for adopting them into movies. But the opposit of this it's ok sometimes, e.g. Star Wars, Alien (vs Predator), but they should know which movie is suitable for adoption.

100% agree.

Each time, it sucks. Even when it looks promising from trailers, and plots, the results are always disappointing.

Put the money into quality scripts and writers, and stop wasting money in license rights.

As a child, I rushed to the cinema to see Super Mario Bros: The movie... I came out traumatized and lost my childhood innocence 😛

More and more fan-made videos are great. Hollywood should hire them!

Video games are more and more like (interactive) films, both; story line and aesthetic. I bet that one day, video games will replace movies in theaters! There are already millions of people watching others play (Twitch), so...
