Cruelty against animals should be punished the same way as against individuals

Why is there a difference in treatment when it comes to cruelty exerts against individuals and against animals? I think that when an individual is committing an act of cruelty against an other person or against an animal, this should be punished the exact same way. A being is a being, and let no one give me the argument that it is a matter of having a conscience and soul or not. It is more than obvious that an animal has a conscience and a soul.

I don't want to give examples, as everyday we learn stories of maltreatment, tortures, and killings, and I find this totally unacceptable, and this is totally unacceptable that those committing are not punished much more severely.

I agree with you, Aurore. A person who abuses, tortures and/or kills an animal for pleasure should be punished as if that animal were a human. I know you didn't want to give examples, but I will.

The puppy years back who was found completely skinned alive. Another who would found with third-degree burns all over, and still alive. Animals who were locked in cages so many years, they couldn't even stand and were covered with sores.

Now, if a person had set a human being on fire, they would find themselves in prison and/or a hospital for the criminally insane. The person who skins the puppy alive is severely mentally ill and belongs in the same hospital for the criminally insane.

I have to stop, because I'm getting upset. Sorry.

First of all, I don't see what is wrong is being vegetarian, and I am still awaiting someone to demonstrate that a World of vegetarians would be worse than our actual World. Secondly, I was talking about "cruelty". I believe that, even animals which are bred for their meat, deserve a decent life and death. Tell me I am wrong?

A better world?
Come on sweetheart...
I'm sure you are intelligent enough to understand the way things are done in this world.
I wish there would be more of your kind who understand the concepts of decency and empathy.
"Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutly."
In my favourite series "MR R*B*T" one of the characters tells us about the FACT that power is nothing you can earn you just take it or you don't simple as that.
Another one says something like the world is not a bad place because there are too many bad people in it... No! It is a bad place because the "good" people wont dare to say something.
F*ck Political Correctness! We all know what is right and what is wrong. You don't need a degree for that. All we have to keep in mind is to treat others the way we want to be treated. No negotiations no questions just stick with that and you can look in the mirror without asking yourself: Who is this?
We are living on a planet where human beings did, do (and always will) horrible things to their own kind how could someone expect them being nicer to the rest of our relatives.
Keep your spirit up and be thankfull for the privilege to live in a time and country that allows you to think that way and speak your mind.
For example in Saudi Arabia women are getting arrested and persecuted for being raped.
The world we are living in is sick and we are the cancer.
There is no world peace with human beings in it.

Of course meat animals should be well-cared for, obviously. I just think that when we start on this path, then we start to make excuses for breeding and having meat animals in the first place, when perhaps our goals should be a meatless world in the first place. But if there has to be meat in this world, then animals should be raised with kindness and care and in clean and comfortable conditions.

Of course, it should! I don't understand why laws are making differences between living beings.

Not even being human guarantees you any form of safety and dignity in this world.
Homo homini lupus est.
Either you are the prey or the predator.
None of us is innocent we all have blood on our hands. Whenever we buy new shoes, eat pancakes or even take the bus we always do some kind of harm.
The Under the Dome analogy showing us that everything and everyone is connected even though no one likes to admit this.
We have a voice and we shouldn't be afraid to lend it to those who cannot speak for themselves. Protect those who are not able to do it themselves.
But don't expect any acknowledgements or awards it is most likely that people start avoiding you for reminding them how worthless their lives and morals are.
