Why pink for girls, and blue for boys? And what about toys?

Where does this tradition come that girls need to wear pink, and boys blue? Where do these stereotypes are taking their origins from? And most of all why do they continue? Today, if a boy wears pink, he'll be pointed out and made fun of!

But we could say the same about toys. Girls have to play with dolls, and mini-kitchens, while boys have toy guns and cars! Don't even try to think differently or you'll be accused of weakening the psychological balance of your kids! And stop saying that toys are representing a training for their future activities! This is even worse and sexist! So girls are conditioned to be cleaning, cooking, taking care of babies, and boys to drive cars shooting at everybody? Yeah not surprising this last case happens!

Thankfully, in our adult society, these cleavages tend to fade; men are more and more sharing housework and the raising of children, and women have other activities than those they have been conditioned to! Hopefully!

How was it for you? Are you reproducing this scheme with your own kids?

Well... I'm born to be a man, not a woman.

I don't believe men are sharing more of the housework. I think we are just seeing a few more men jumping in front of cameras who would have been washing a dish anyhow.

And it's not a "scheme", fella. In my eyes, it's protection against my foot in his butt.

Actually, pink for girls and blue for boys is relatively recent. It used to be the other way round. Yes, really! And not that far back, either. As recently as 1918 it was pink for boys and blue for girls. Check it out.

I believe that this is the parents who are conditioning their kids to like such or such color/toy/activity/...

I don't know for boys, but I know that girls are in awe at all the reality tv women, ... then all it needs is that one of these "more or less famous" person wears pink, then all girls will find this wonderful, and will want the same. If tomorrow, Paris Hilton starts wearing Orange, then, you can be sure that the next day, lot of girls will rush to get orange cloths ...
